A train of Jews being deported from Theresienstadt to Auschwitz, 1943. Prisoners being deported, Theresienstadt, Czechoslovakia.

A Jew who was deported to Auschwitz from the ghetto-camp Theresienstadt. On arrival he received the number 170421 and was sent to the Theresienstadt family camp in Birkenau. .

The Transport
On the 20th of December 1943 an RSHA transport from Theresienstadt arrived at Auschwitz with 2473 Jews. 1,137 men and boys received the numbers 169969 – 171105 and 1136 women and girls received the numbers 169969 – 171105. All were taken to sub-camp B-IIb - the Theresienstadt family camp in Birkenau.

About six months following the arrival of the transport, on the 2nd of July 1944, Dr Mengele conducted a selection of the entire family camp. 3,080 men, women and youths passed the selection. Of those who passed the selection, 2,000 women were sent to the Stutthof and Hamburg camps and 1,000 men were sent to Sachsenhausen concentration camp. 80 youths were sent to training groups. Everyone else from the family camp was murdered that same day in the gas chambers.
