Dr. Kiril Feferman and Dr. Mikhail Kizimov at symposium
On 27 November 2017 the Moshe Mirilashvili Center organized the presentation of the current scholar Dr. Mikhail Kizilov at the International Institute for Holocaust Research. Dr. Kizilov, a well-known researcher of the Karaites, presented his recent research about the Karaites during the Holocaust in the USSR. Dr. Kizilov discussed the special situation in which this Jewish group found themselves during the Holocaust and about the doubts of Nazi political figures and scholars regarding the Karait's history and the ethnic origin of the Karaites. Dr. Kizilov also highlighted the implementation of this policy in the local context. In his presentation that followed, Dr. Kiril Feferman, an other specialist on non-Ashkenasic Soviet groups of Jews, discussed several questions, including why the Nazis paid much attention to such small groups at the same time that, during the war, they murdered without any hesitation they murdered millions of people.
