The Jewish community in Berehovo flourished in the 1920’s and 1930’s, maintaining a number of prayer houses, welfare and charity institutions, schools and Talmud Torahs. In addition, Jews were well repesented in the medical, legal and financial professions. Zionist parties were active- especially among the youth. After the German occupation in the winter of 1944, a ghetto was set up and in May, most of the Jews in Berehovo were deported to Auschwitz.
