“Beriha” was a postwar movement of 250,000 survivors whose aim was to reach the Mediterranean and Black Sea coasts, so that they could set off for Eretz Israel. By August, about 15,000 survivors had arrived in Italy. Once in Italy, survivors were taken south to wait for boats to Eretz Israel. Some ships evaded the British blockade and arrived safely in Eretz Israel, while others were sent to detention camps in Cyprus. After the State of Israel was established, “Beriha” was dismantled.
