In 1931, the Jewish population in Zamosc was 10,265. Polish mobs attacked Jews prior to the German occupation of the city on October 7, 1939. In April 1941, the Jews were confined to a ghetto. Deportations began on April 11, 1942 when about 3,000 Jews were sent to the Belzec death camp. Deportations continued until the final liquidation of the ghetto on October 16, 1942.
