Stage I - Reading a Photograph
Duration: 1.5 hours
This educational material introduces students to the methodology of reading and analyzing a photograph, understanding its context, and, last, but not least, acquainting the learner with primary sources and the value of historical materials.
During this stage, the teacher has the option of working with two different pictures, one of which most people will recognize as Holocaust-related, with the second one being far less recognizable. The teacher also has the option of working with both, or with just one photograph depending on the prior knowledge of the students.
Each photograph is accompanied by:
- An interactive resource that provides specific information about each photo’s content.
(Hotspots will address different historical aspects) - A page on which to record the students' initial observations
- Suggestions for discussion
