On the morning of January 21 or 26, or in February, 1942 between 110 and 126 Jews were taken from their homes and collected at the former government OSOVIAKHIM building on Oktyabrskaya Street, on the pretext that they were going to be sent to work. Soviet Report from Kobelyaki, November 27, 1944:
The former head of the local police who served the Germans during the occupation period stated: I ordered part of the police force to be mobilized to search the streets and houses in the Brovarki quarter and the rest of the police to enter apartments and to force the Jewish residents outside and, then, to take them all in one group to the OSOVIAKHIM [pre-military training] building. According to this order, on the following day at 7 o’clock in the morning all the Jews, numbering about 100, were taken to the OSOVIAKHIM building…. The shooting of the Jews took place across the Vorskla River, one kilometer from the town of Kobelyaki, at an anti-tank trench…. At 2 in the afternoon I went to [the area] across the Vorskla River where the shooting was taking place. When we crossed the bridge, we heard rifle fire. When we arrived at the anti-tank trench, I saw about seven Jews standing at the edge of the trench. Some of them were naked and some were wearing their underwear. At that moment German solders who were standing ten paces from the trench shot the group of Jews who were standing there. Their [the Jews’] bodies fell into the trench, where the bodies of those who had been killed before them were lying…. The shooting site was surrounded by the police and, in the middle of them, next to the trench, the victims were lined up and shot by the Germans. Before being shot, the Jews were forced to take off their clothes….
