Murder Story of Ostrozec Jews at the Jewish Cemetery in Ostrożec

Ostrożec Jewish Cemetery
Poland
In the hours before the final roundup, about 200 Jews managed to escape from the ghetto after they learned that local farmers were digging large graves near the Jewish cemetery of the town. On October 9, 1942 members of the German Gendarmerie, assisted by Ukrainian auxiliary police, surrounded the ghetto. The Jews were rounded up and put onto trucks that took them to pits at the Jewish cemetery, where the Jews were forced to get off and form a line with the rabbi at its head. Then the victims were forced to undress. They had to place their clothes and valuables into a cart, by which these items were later taken back to the ghetto. The Jews were then shot to death in groups of five by a detachment of the Sipo and SD from Rowné. The small children were thrown alive into the pit. Since some of the Jews were only wounded, many of the victims were buried alive.
