Murder story of Novozybkov Jews in the Karkhovskiy Forest

According to some sources, the Germans began shooting Jews, mostly men, soon after Novozybkov was occupied. On January 18 (according to other sources on January 14), 1942 a group of 950 Jews was taken from Novozybkov to the Karchovskiy Forest, where they were shot to death. Non-Jews were also shot at this murder site. Soviet reports note that most of the 2,860 bodies found at this location were those of Jews.

... I, your neighbor Anastasia Mikheylets who lived on Tsvetnaya Street with you in Novozybkov, am answering your written inquiry about the fate of your sister, Ginda Tirkltoyd. On February 17, 1942, she left for the market in order to buy something for herself and for her ailing mother. A German punitive unit surrounded the market and rounded up the Jews. More than eight hundred people were seized and herded into the club at the Revolutionary Wave Match Factory. They were locked up in there, then shot the next day. Among these unfortunates were also the dentist Barkman, the medic Shrayber, the entire Altshuler family (he was a dentist), and many others....
