Samary
Poland
Several Jewish families lived in Samary in the interwar period, under Polish rule. In September 1939, with the entry of the Red Army into the village following the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, Samary became part of Soviet Ukraine. The Germans occupied Samary at the end of June 1941. In the fall of 1942 several hundred Jewish residents were shot to death by a German unit just east of the village. Samary was liberated by the Red Army in July 1944.
