Jews began to settle in Pleshchenitsy in the second half of the eighteenth century. In 1939 827 Jews lived in the town, comprising 22.5 percent of the local residents. During that time, most Jews worked on the local kolkhoz. In the early Soviet period, a Yiddish school operated in Pleshchenitsy. The Germans occupied Pleshchenitsy on June 27, 1941. A ghetto was then set up. At the beginning of November 1941 most of the ghetto's inmates were killed, and, a short time later the rest Jews were also. The town was liberated by the Red Army at the beginning of July 1944.
