Yad Vashem Responds to German Embassy Ceremony in Israel

27 October 2002

Yad Vashem views the German Embassy’s upcoming memorial ceremony honoring Germans killed during army service—including those who served in SS units—as highly insensitive. The ceremony demonstrates a disregard for the citizens of Israel—hundreds of thousands of who are Holocaust survivors. In honoring the perpetrators of mass murder, the German Embassy not only reopens the wounds of survivors but also of their families, and all Israelis, who consider the Holocaust a highly sensitive issue.
