UN Secretary General at Yad Vashem Tomorrow

27 August 2017

The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres will visit Yad Vashem tomorrow. The Secretary-General will tour the Holocaust History Museum, participate in a memorial ceremony in the Hall of Remembrance, visit the Children's Memorial and sign the Yad Vashem Guest Book.

There will be photo-ops in the Hall of Names, Hall of Remembrance and at the signing of the Guest Book outside the Children's Memorial. Media interested in covering the visit must RSVP to simmy.allen@yadvashem.org.il, and arrive at the Hall of Names with a valid GPO card, by 08:45.

Following the Guest Book signing, the Secretary-General will meet with expert staff from the International School for Holocaust Studies at Yad Vashem regarding the ongoing joint initiative "Keeping the Memory Alive-Our Shared Responsibility" International Poster Competition. This project, a shared venture between Yad Vashem, The Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme, and the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) is geared to serve as both an educational and commemorative activity for students all over the world. The winning posters will be displayed around the world in various high-profile governmental, civic and educational settings, including parliaments and UN offices. The competition, now entering its third cycle, was first launched in 2011.  This is just one example of the cooperative programs Yad Vashem conducts with the United Nations and its agencies to further Holocaust commemoration and education worldwide.
