Sapling from Chestnut Tree that Anne Frank Wrote about to be Planted at Yad Vashem Monday

22 March 2012

A sapling from the chestnut tree that Anne Frank wrote about in her diary will be planted at Yad Vashem on Monday, March 26, 2012. The Anne Frank House decided to donate saplings to Yad Vashem and other institutions when the tree became sick. Anne wrote about the tree, which collapsed in 2010, three times in her diary, the last time on May 13, 1944, noting, “Our chestnut tree is in full bloom. It’s covered with leaves and is even more beautiful than last year.”

The sapling will be planted near the Children’s Memorial and International School for Holocaust Studies, in the presence of Hanna Pick, Holocaust survivor and friend of Anne Frank, Avner Shalev, Chairman of Yad Vashem, Yehudit Inbar, Director of the Museums Division and Israeli High School students from Jerusalem, at Yad Vashem.

The planting is open to the press, in coordination with the media relations dept: 02 644 3410. Media should arrive no later than 11:45.
