Belgian Foreign Minister at Yad Vashem Tomorrow

Will announce support of maintaining Yad Vashem Online Database of Belgian Righteous Among the Nations

11 November 2013

The Foreign Minister of Belgium, Didier Reynders, will visit Yad Vashem tomorrow, November 12, 2013.

The Foreign Minister will visit the Holocaust History Museum, participate in a memorial ceremony in the Hall of Remembrance, and visit the Children’s Memorial, before signing the Yad Vashem Guest Book. The Foreign Minister will then announce the Belgian Government’s support of maintaining the online database of Belgian Righteous Among the Nations, and their assistance in scanning the files of the Belgian Righteous Among the Nations.

Over the past five decades the Commission for the Designation of the Righteous Among the Nations has recognized some 25,000 individuals who risked their lives to rescue Jews during the Holocaust, including 1,646 Belgians. You can view the Database of Righteous Among the Nations on Yad Vashem’s website, www.yadvashem.org.

There will be photo-ops in the Hall of Names, Hall of Remembrance, the signing of the Guest Book, and at the announcement of the Belgian support of the digitization project.

Media who wish to cover the visit should arrive at the Hall of Names, with valid GPO card, by 11:00. RSVP: 02 644 3410/ estee.yaari@yadvashem.org.il
