Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer to Visit Yad Vashem Tomorrow, Tuesday, 12 July 2022

11 July 2022

Tomorrow, Tuesday, 12 July 2022, the Chancellor of Austria H.E. Mr. Karl Nehammer will visit Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center. During the visit, the Chancellor will meet with Yad Vashem Chairman Dani Dayan. The Chancellor will be accompanied by the Austrian Federal Ministers of Defense Klaudia Tanner and Interior Gerhard Karner.

The Chancellor, who previously visited Yad Vashem last in November 2021 as Interior Minister, will tour the "Flashes of Memory - Photography during the Holocaust" exhibition, and participate in a memorial ceremony in the Hall of Remembrance, where he will rekindle the Eternal Flame and lay a wreath in the memory of the six million Jewish victims of Nazi Germany and its collaborators. He will then visit the Children's Memorial, dedicated to the 1.5 million Jewish children murdered during the Holocaust.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Chancellor will sign the Yad Vashem Guest Book and announce a multiyear cooperation between Yad Vashem and the Federal Chancellery.

There will be photo-ops in the Hall of Remembrance, and at the signing of the Guest Book in Janusz Korczak Square. Media interested in covering the visit must RSVP to simmy.allen@yadvashem.org.il, and arrive at the Hall of Remembrance with a valid GPO card, by 09:50.
