250 Member Consistoire Delegation Visits Yad Vashem

President of French Jewish Communities Organization Commits to Supporting Online Database of Shoah Victims’ Names

02 March 2004

On Friday, 250 members of the Consistoire umbrella organization of France’s Jewish communities visited Yad Vashem. The delegation was led by President of the Consistoire Jean Kahn, Vice Presidents Joel Mergui and Guy Toubiana, and heads of France’s Jewish communities. The group learned about the Central Database of Shoah Victims’ Names, which will be opened to the public on Yad Vashem’s website in June. President Kahn committed to financial support of the project.

The delegation represented the umbrella organization of France’s Jewish communities, and was led by President of the Consistoire Jean Kahn, Vice Presidents Joel Mergui and Guy Toubiana, and heads of France’s Jewish communities.

The delegation attended a presentation about the Central Database of Shoah Victims’ Names, which will be opened to the public on Yad Vashem’s website in June (see below). President Kahn committed to financial support of the project.

The Consistoire group also viewed a presentation about Yad Vashem’s reconstruction of the identities of each Holocaust victim. This is done through preservation of any available material relating to each particular victim - Pages of Testimony, biographical information, personal documents, photos, etc. Reconstruction of victims’ identities is a victory of conscience over the Nazis and their collaborators, as it denies them of the eradication of the memory of the six million Jews they murdered.

The delegation also visited the Children’s Memorial and held a wreath-laying ceremony in the Hall of Remembrance.
