Tamara Dornfest as born on 4 February 1942 in Arnhem, the Netherlands, to Bella and Lucian. Her big brother, Isidore, was born in 1940.
During the war, the Dornfest family was deported to the Westerbork transit camp, and from there to the Theresienstadt ghetto. In October 1944, they were deported to the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp where Bella, Lucian, Isidore and Tamara were all murdered.
The medallion engraved with Tamara's name, birthdate and place of birth is made from a silver coin (Dutch guilder). The reverse side of the medallion is engraved with a Star of David.
