"Lichtenworth, 8/2/1945" is written below a portrait of a sad-looking girl. The portrait is of Shoshana Rochlitz née Levinger.
Shoshana Levinger, born in 1927 in Budapest, Hungary, was sent for forced labor in Lichtenworth, Austria at the end of a death march. The portrait was drawn for her by a fellow inmate, Sakandy Aliz, on the back of a box, in exchange for a bite of a cracker that Shoshana had.
After the war, Shoshana made her way on foot back to Budapest where she was reunited with her parents. In 1949 she immigrated to Israel.
Shoshana gave her portrait from the camp to Yad Vashem for posterity.
