The twins Tauba and Adela Edelsztejn were born in Warsaw, Poland on 5 January 1923. In 1930 the Edelsztejn family moved to Amsterdam. During the German occupation, the Edelsztejns were deported by train from Holland to camps in the East. While the train was in Belgian territory, Tauba and Adela jumped from the train. Adela was injured and Tauba asked the locals for help. A local family looked after both of them. Adela underwent many operations and was then moved to a convent. The family arranged a forged identity card for Tauba and employed her as a maid.
The identity card was given to Yad Vashem by Gita Sacks, Tauba Edelsztejn's daughter, at a collection day in Be'er Sheva.
