Moritz Birenberg was born in Vijnita, Romania in 1914, the youngest of four children. When the war broke out Moritz, his parents, Chaim and Leah, and sister Frieda lived in Cernauti.
They were deported from Cernauti to Transnistria. Moritz was murdered in 1942. His parents and sister survived the Holocaust and immigrated to Israel in 1948.
Nurit Shichur (née Birenberg), Moritz's niece, gave the certificate to Yad Vashem at a collection day in Rehovot.
