The Wolfson Family Charitable Trust, UK

The Wolfson Family Charitable Trust was established in 1958 and the principal aims of the Founder Trustees, as stated in the Trust Deed, include the advancement of medicine and surgery, the arts and education. The Trustees are advised by an Advisory Committee in Israel, chaired by Professor Ben-Shahar, as well as experts in the UK. The Trust works closely with the Wolfson Foundation with whom it has shared objectives and administration, and has funding programmes in both the UK and Israel. In Israel awards have generally been made to universities, hospitals and major cultural institutions.

Whilst funds are allocated across a broad range of activities, as a general policy grants are given with three key aims. First, to back excellence (both existing and potential) usually through the provision of infrastructure through which it can flourish. Second, to act as a catalyst, so that the Foundation’s funding can attract additional support. Third, to identify and support important prospective areas currently under-funded.
