This Torah binder (also termed a wimpel) was embroidered on the occasion of the circumcision of Walter Marcel [Moshe] Joseph, born on 6 March 1938. In 1940 the toddler was deported with his parents to Auschwitz and murdered.
The colorful binder was embroidered with traditional blessings that have a tragic resonance in light of this little child's fate: "He should grow to Torah, Chuppah (marriage) and good deeds," and "May the Lord bless you and keep you and bestow peace upon you."
