The Medal of Honor, awarded posthumously to Arnest Stegel for his activity in the Czech underground during World War II, was presented to his widow, Rosina Stegel.
Stegel was executed in 1944 as part of the Germans' quest for vengeance in occupied Czechoslovakia following the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, a senior member of the Nazi hierarchy.
