In the summer of 1944, Geza Pick fled with his family to the mountains and hid there with forged documents until liberation. The pin, along with other items, was kept by a friend of the Pick family during the war.
The yellow Star of David is a plastic pin in the shape of a yellow star with "HZ" engraved in the center, the initials for "Hospodarsky Žid" ("economic Jew"). These pins were given to Jews who continued to work in "Aryan" factories.
