Gift of Sophie Libo-Wawziniak, Tel Aviv, Israel
Sophie Libo was born in Vilna as Ewlina-Jadwiga in 1935. With the German occupation, her mother’s Christian voice coach, Jadwiga-Jadza, took Sophie to a number of hiding places but Sophie was discovered and taken to the ghetto. She was removed from the ghetto and hidden again, this time in her final hiding place with Mrs. Daso. Her parents, Vera and Aleksander and her elder sister Luba survived in hiding in a convent. At the end of the war Sophie was reunited with her parents.
In 1958 Sophie immigrated to Israel with her husband. She is an artist and uses puppetry to describe life in the ghetto.
