"And You Shall Tell Your Children"

Marking the Holiday of Passover Before, During and After the Holocaust

Hidden in a Suitcase

Julia Gruber (later Zehava Pleischer) was born in Ujpest, Hungary in 1927.

Having survived the Holocaust, she returned home and was reunited with her brother Laszlo, who had found the family belongings that their parents had hidden in a suitcase. Among the items was their father’s Passover Haggadah. Their father, Franz Gruber, perished in the Holocaust.

Zehava donated the Haggadah to Yad Vashem through the Gathering the Fragments campaign.
