Felix Nussbaum. "View of Ostende with Boat, 1935"

View of Ostende with Boat, 1935

A man stands in a rowboat on a canal, on the far side of which can be seen the city buildings, including a church. In front of the buildings are a horse and wagon. This painting appears to have been created in Ostende, a Belgian resort town where Nussbaum spent summer vacations with his parents. Nussbaum drew many port scenes here in the period before his arrest, when he was still able to travel to the town from Brussels.
