The stream of survivor refugees arriving in Bratislava after World War II from Poland, Hungary and Romania included many orphans and children whose parents were unable to look after them for various reasons. The reestablished Jewish community set up an orphanage to care for these children; there, they received medical treatment and took part in educational activities. Zionist youth movements were active in Bratislava, and the counselors in these movements also joined in the effort to rehabilitate the orphaned children.
