A number of Pioneer (halutz) Training Centers were established in Bălţi. The Karaskiuk family, close to the Revisionists, were farmers and landowners. They knew about agriculture, and helped the Zionist pioneer farms around the town. The Jewish industrialist Hasmanski allowed the Gordonia pioneers at "Masada," close to Bălţi, to work at his sugar factory by the banks of the River Răut in advance of their emigration to Eretz Israel. The Gordonia pioneers were among the founders of the Hulda, Masada, Hanita and Avuka kibbutzim.
