From the testimony of Klavdiya Shevchenko, who was living in Verkhniy Chorgun village during the German occupation:
… When [I] left Sevastopol on July 11 or 12, 1942, I don't remember the exact date, I witnessed a terrible sight. Arriving in the Vosmaya Ostanovka [locality] I heard the shooting of submachine-guns. When I approached, I saw people, including men, women, and children, being pulled off a truck and lined up to be shot. After the people were in place a couple of gendarmes with guns approached and began to shoot the people near the pit at a ravine. After being shot, they fell into the pit. They were naked when they were shot. Their belongings were collected, loaded onto trucks, and taken away. The people who were shot were Jews, I came to this conclusion when I was speaking with the policeman who drove me to [forced] labor. He said to me that if I didn't obey our [German] orders, I would meet the fate of the Jews from Vosmaya Ostanovka. In addition, one woman who was placed near the pit before the shooting probably lost her mind in the face of the horrors she had seen. When a policeman began to strip off her dress, she began to dance, sing something, and laugh. I personally saw two trucks full of people taken under guard by 12-13 German submachine-gunners. When I saw the horrible sight of this shooting, I turned away and left. I returned to this place only after the Germans had finished shooting and gone away. That is what I saw with my own eyes....
