On May 14, 1942 members of the Novyy Bug gendarmerie and local auxiliary policemen arrested about 30 Jews and Communists in Novyy Bug. The prisoners were held for some time, abused, and then taken to a nearby pit east of the town and shot.

… The first assignment of the German occupiers after their arrival was the liquidation of Soviet [i.e. government, and] Party activists and of the Jewish population. Thus,[Communist] Party members… [and] the Jews Aron Summ, Boris Fayshteyn, Boris Khaskin, and others - a total of 36 people - were arrested. They were held for between 3 and 7 months [sic]. All those detained were subjected to serious physical torture, being beaten with rifle butts, ramrods, and whips with iron tips; after all these painful tortures all of those who had been arrested were shot east of the town. There were children age 7-9 among them. The shooting was carried out on May 14, 1942….
