According to some witnesses, about 100 Jews were murdered in trenches in the courtyard of the Kakhovka power plant during the large-scale massacre of September or October 1941. The murderers were members of Sonderkommando 10a of Einsatzgruppe D and German and local auxiliary policemen.

Isidor Podvoiskii, who was born in 1887 and lived in Kakhovka during the war years, testified:
… On September 16 [1941] the entire Jewish population was ordered to assemble at the commandant's office. All those assembled were taken in groups outside the town to a field of the Chervonaya Kultura kolkhoz…. Some of the Jews were shot … in the courtyard of the power plant, in a trench….
