The Jews in the Yarun ghetto were shot to death on May 5, 1942. According to some sources, at 3 a.m. the Jews were collected at the local club building, where they were kept until midday. Then they were divided into three groups, the men, the women with the children, and the younger women and girls aged 12-30. The groups were taken to the shooting site in the Paseka Ravine of Yurkovshchina village. There most of them were shot with sub-machineguns and machine-guns, while some victims were buried alive. Some testimonies noted that prior to the shooting the women and the girls from the third group were raped at the shooting site. The shooting lasted for two hours. The Soviet reports say 580 people, including some Ukrainians, were shot on that day.
