Murder Site
Jachowicz Street Prison
Poland
In the course of the pogrom carried out in Lwów on June 30-July 1, 1941 by Ukrainian nationalists Jews were taken to the prison on Jachowicz (now Akademik Roman Kuchera) Street, where about 200 bodies of people of various nationalities who had been shot by NKVD members shortly before the Soviet retreat from Lwów were found. The Jews were forced to exhume and clean the bodies, being humiliated and beaten in the process. Jews were incarcerated throughout the German occupation prison. Many of them were murdered at the Jachowicz Street prison's fence by Ukrainian prison guards.
