Anna Tseluyko- Klachkovskaya, who was born in 1888 and lived in Novograd Volynskiy during the war years, testified:
It often happened that I saw the shooting of Soviet people in the place of the trench-grove {in another testimony: on the bank of the Sluch River, in the area of the grove], where the mass murder was carried out. The most typical example was on August 29, 1941. The German criminals brought the Jews on German trucks. All of them [the Jews] were shot in the trench-grove.. That day was filled with fear and horror. About 600 Soviet people were shot on that day.

ChGK Soviet Reports from Novograd Volynskiy
The Commission carried out an examination of the site of the mass shooting of peaceful civilians in the area of the grove, at the Sluch River bank, opposite the Red Army club. The grave measures 12 X 3 meters and is about 5 meters deep and at a height of 1.5 meters above the river bank. When the grave was opened …a number of bodies of women and children was found…. It was determined that the deaths were caused by bullet wounds because several bullet shells, as well as machine-gun shells, were found near the grave. After examining the grave and the bodies, as well as the testimony of the witness Mariya Zinkevich, it was concluded that the shooting was carried out in the last days of August 1941. The number of murder victims amounted to as many as 750-800. Before sunrise, the victims were forced to undress and their clothes were taken away. All those shot were of Jewish origin.
