From the letter of Rosa Galina to her friend Sarah Fish:
You ask about your parents, so I will inform you directly that they were murdered on May 28, 1942, by the German barbarians. Isaak's parents were also murdered. Sarah, a great misfortune happened to us. You know, there was no time to get away, so when the Germans came the mass liquidation of Yanushpol's Jewish population took place. …289 families were murdered. …. If you could only come home now, at least you would see the graves where the [murdered] residents of Yanushpol, 890 of them, now lie….

In 1942 the Jews were shot. They were brought to Yanushpol from different places. Their graves are over there, in the forest. We heard the noise. The next day I and another girl went to see the place. The grave was not covered. It was still open and chlorine had been poured over it. Gold teeth were seen all over the place.

Yitzhak Portnoy, who was born in Yanushpol and lived there after the war, testified:
In the village of Yanushpol all the Jews were shot on May 29, 1942. Most of them were women, children, or old people because everyone who was capable of working had been collected and sent to various camps to work. … After the war we [those who remained alive] all got together and attempted to count all the buried ones, who had been brutally murdered, along with the young children, who were thrown alive into two large pits. We all knew each other and, according to our court, we found at least 650 people [victims].
