Murder Story of Yanov Jews at the Jewish Cemetery in Yanov

Murder Site
Yanov
Ukraine (USSR)
On June 11, 1942 the last 100 Jews of Yanov were forced into the stables of the Jewish Khlebopashets collective farm. From there they were taken to the Jewish cemetery on the northwestern outskirts of Yanov and shot dead there. The perpetrators of this massacre were apparently German rural and security policemen, the latter probably from the Kalinovka Security Police station.

From the literary account of B. Blecherman about the events in the town of Yanov during the German occupation, 1977:
…The Fascists and auxiliary policemen did not leave the village. On the contrary, they engaged in a major search and arrest operation. They searched in every house, every corner. Floors were ripped up as they searched for hiding places. This continued for a day and a half; all the people found were taken to the stables of the Khlebopashets collective farm…. At dawn on June 1, 1942, a Monday, all the people were taken out of the stables and lined up. Tormented by hunger, cold, and disease, they started on their final way…. They were walking with their last strength, guarded by the Fascists and auxiliary policemen, and also by crowds of villagers…. They were walking, approaching the murder site. The site did not have enough room for them: there were no more empty pits. They were then forced on to the Jewish cemetery. When they saw the pits [there], it was clear to them what those pits were for. There were cries, weeping, wailing, and hysteria. They were ordered to take off their clothes, but they did not do so. They were then threatened…. Desperate, they finally took off their clothes. A group of people was taken to the pit and forced to lie one on top of the other along the length of the pit; several sub-machinegun shots rang out; they were followed by cries of pain, protest, lamentation…. More and more groups of victims were brought…. In this way about 200 people were shot on that day….
