On October 15, 1942 (January 20, 1943, according to some testimonies) about 30 Jews of all ages and both sexes were marched by German rural and local auxiliary policemen who were serving at the county rural police station, 2 kilometers out of Oratov and shot dead at a ravine near the Dembrovskiy Forest.

From the Testimony of Kuzma Nagornyi, who was born in 1893:
…34 people from among the [completely innocent Jewish]…population were taken on January 20, 1943 to a ravine near the Dembrovskiy Forest, 2 kilometers from the village of Oratov, and brutally shot by the German infant-killers….
…On October 15, 1942 [members] of the county gendarmerie, commanded by its chief, the German officer Forker [sic] and his deputy, German officer Schleipner [sic], took 74 innocent Soviet civilians -- elderly people, women, and children -- from the Jewish population, out of their homes… the 34 elderly people, women, and children were taken by the German murderers to a ravine near the Dembrovskiy Forest, 2 kilometers from Oratov village, and shot there with sub-machineguns….
