Murder Story of Ozarintsy Jews at the Ozarintsy Polish Cemetery

On July 21 1941, a day after Romanian and German troops occupied Ozarintsy (August 13, according to the inscription on a collective tombstone), Romanian soldiers collected the entire Jewish population of the town in the building of the former synagogue. Between 30 and 70 Jewish men, mainly Bessarabian refugees, were taken, under the pretext of being sent to work, loaded onto trucks, and delivered to the Polish cemetery outside of town, where they were shot to death.

From the Testimony of Leyka Vaisman, who was born in 1904:
…Immediately after the entry of the German and Romanian occupiers into Ozarintsy village the Romanians collected all the Jews and forced them into the synagogue. Afterwards 32 innocent Jewish residents who had been collected were selected, taken out…of the village and shot. My husband, Pinya Brakovich Vaisman, was among those shot….

From the Testimony of Zhenya Chichelnik, who was born in 1883:
…On July 21, 1941, when Romanian occupiers arrived, they immediately gathered all of the Jews of Ozarintsy town into the synagogue, held them [there] for several hours, [and] afterwards selected 43 men, loaded them onto trucks, and took them to the Polish cemetery, where they shot all of them and buried them near the cemetery….
