Jews first settled in Molochansk at the end of the 19th century. Before 1915 the town was called Galbshtadt since it had been founded as a center of several German colonies. In 1939 Molochansk had 249 Jews, who comprised 2 per cent of the total population. German troops occupied Molochansk on October 5, 1941. 36 Molochansk Jews were murdered in December 15, 1941. The Red Army liberated Molochansk on September 20, 1943.
