Pershotravensk
Ukraine (USSR)
The village of Pershotravensk (sometimes referred to in Russian as Pervomaysk) was established in 1933 on the site of the former Tokarevka village. In 1914 an electro-technical porcelain factory was established in Pershotravensk. During the Soviet period the factory's production increased and new residents, including Jews, settled in the village. In 1939 the Jewish population was 239, or about 8 percent of the total. The village was occupied by German troops in early July 1941. Several dozen Jews who remained in the village were shot in late August 1941. Pershotravensk was liberated by the Red Army in January 1944.
