In 1939 the Jewish population of Gorodnitsa was 1,212, or about 24 percent of the total population.
The town was occupied in early July 1941. By then most of the local Jews had succeeed in fleeing the town. Those Jews who remained in Gorodnitsa were shot to death.
The town was liberated by the partisan unit of Kovpak in September 1943.
