The Germans captured the town on July 10, 1941. A ghetto was set up there. Apparently in 1942, on the pretext of their being relocated, some Jews were taken from the ghetto to a school on the outskirts of town and shot to death. The remaining Jews were taken to the ghetto in the town of Starokonstantinov, located about 20 kilometers north of Ostropol, and later, along with Jews from Starokonstantinov, Staraya Sinyava and Gritsev, were murdered in the Novgorodskiy Forest.
Ostropol was liberated by the Red Army on March 5, 1944.
