Armyansk was founded at the beginning of the 18th century by Armenian and Greek settlers. Jews probably settled in Armyansk in the late 19th century. In 1926 the local Jewish population was 156; it dropped to 107 (out of a total of 3,963 residents) in 1939. In 1930 Armyansk became the center of Krasno Perekopsk County.

The Germans occupied Armyansk in late October 1941. The Jews were forced to wear white armbands with yellow Stars of David. Between November 1941 and March 1942 about 40 Armyansk Jews were murdered by German forces.

Armyansk was liberated by the Red Army on April 8, 1944.
