A balanced representation of the Holocaust and its Jewish and universal dimensions has been a delicate issue for decades. Documentaries and feature films, literature, theatrical performances, remembrance practices and more have tried to convey depictions and educational messages, some of them sticking close to the historical record, some others choosing more artistic liberty and yet building on Holocaust-related themes and images, whereas others have entirely distorted historical reality, and some bordered on sexual and violence pornography.
