A Tribute to Dr. Samuel Pisar z"l

On 23 July, Yad Vashem hosted a tribute ceremony honoring longtime friend of Yad Vashem, Dr. Samuel Pisar z"l. In addition to serving as a tribute to Pisar's life and legacy, the ceremony marked the commencement of Yad Vashem's Holocaust Education Program in Memory of Dr. Samuel Pisar established by the Pisar Family.  Under this program, the International School for Holocaust Studies will hold Holocaust Education Training Seminars for educators in certain populations deemed most critically in need of Holocaust education training. This program commemorates Samuel Pisar's lifelong dedication to Yad Vashem and to Holocaust education as a means for positively shaping the future.

Seminar participants, IDF soldiers, Yad Vashem Senior Management and members of the Pisar Family including Judith Pisar, Helaina Pisar-McKibbin, Alexandra Pisar-Pinto and Leah Pisar-Haas attended the ceremony. John Axelrod played a piece he composed in memory of Pisar, in addition to playing an excerpt from Pisar's Kaddish with soprano, Kelley Nassief and narration by Leah Pisar-Haas. Following the ceremony, the Pisar Family unveiled a plaque dedicating the Holocaust Education Program in Memory of Dr. Samuel Pisar.
