A ceremony honoring ten Righteous Among the Nations from Slovakia was organized by the Israeli Embassy in Bratislava on 27 January 2009.

Awards were presented to:

Vojtech and Gizela Antal
Zuzana and Jan Hruska
Vojtech Bela Kolenka
Jan Spisiak
Jozef Tarabus
Pavel and Anna Kristof

The ceremony was held in the main hall of the Old Parliament Building in Bratislava. Four hundred people attended the ceremony. Among the many distinguished guests were Ivan Gasparovic, the President of the Slovak Republic, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and his deputy Dusan Caplovic, government ministers, parliament members, the leadership of the local Jewish community, mayors, diplomats, Holocaust survivors from Slovakia, some of the rescued people and their families, and the relatives of the Righteous who received the medals and certificates of honor.

Minister Yitzhak Herzog, Israel’s Minister of Welfare attended the ceremony and presented the awards together with Zeev Boker, Israeli Ambassador to Slovakia.
