Prime Minister of Romania at Yad Vashem Today

The Prime Minister of Romania, Victor-Viorel Ponta, accompanied by Romanian Government Ministers, visited Yad Vashem today, June 24, 2014. The Prime Minister toured the Holocaust History Museum, participated in a memorial ceremony in the Hall of Remembrance, visited the Children’s Memorial and signed the Yad Vashem Guest Book.

During the Romanian Government’s visit to Israel, a memorandum of understanding was signed by the Romanian Minister of National Education Remus Pricopie and Yad Vashem Chairman Avner Shalev, extending cooperation in the field of Holocaust education, and allowing Romanian educators formal accreditation for attending educational seminars at Yad Vashem’s International School for Holocaust Studies. The agreement was signed in the presence of Israeli Minister of Education Rabbi Shay Piron on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. Since the year 2000, more than 230 Romanian educators have attended seminars at the International School for Holocaust Studies of Yad Vashem.

Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority, was established in 1953. Located in Jerusalem, it is dedicated to Holocaust remembrance, documentation, research and education. The International School for Holocaust Studies conducts educational programs and producers educational materials for a wide variety of audiences in Israel and around the world, and is currently active in some 60 countries. www.yadvashem.org
