The Ghetto Facing Extermination

In the summer and autumn of 1941, the Nazis occupied parts of the USSR and eastern Poland. A large number of the Jews were murdered immediately, while the remaining Jews were confined to ghettos. Rumors, which were then followed by reliable information of the extermination of Jews in death camps in Poland, reached many of the ghettos. The awareness of the extermination process, due to the information received and the mass deportations overshadowed the life of the inhabitants in some of the ghettos.
